About Us

Firefly’s office and design studio is located in Oakland, California. The company was founded by Edward Rudnicki, who co-designs the jewelry alongside Juan Carlos Chavajay. Salvador Chavajay serves as our Operations Manager, while his brother Eduardo Chavajay manages our workshop in Guatemala.

Throughout the year, we continuously develop new jewelry designs while refining and refreshing our collections for our sales representatives. Our work is inspired by the beauty of nature, gardens, and the vibrant colors and traditions of Guatemala. We create intricately embellished artisan jewelry known for innovative color combinations, meticulous craftsmanship, and the use of Austrian crystals. Our designs are elegant, whimsical, and distinctive, reflecting a deep appreciation for harmony, beauty, and fine detail.

All Firefly jewelry is handmade by skilled artisans in Guatemala. Our workshop provides training, stable employment, fair wages, and comfortable working conditions for the indigenous community of Santiago Atitlán. Traditional embroidery and weaving skills have been transformed into jewelry-making techniques unique to Firefly. The workshop itself is spacious and filled with natural light, with each artisan having their own workspace. It surrounds a courtyard filled with plants and flowers, where our workshop dog Bobby greets workers throughout the day.

As part of Firefly’s long-term future, Ed is currently facilitating the transition of the business to the next generation. Salvador and Juan Carlos are gradually assuming increased leadership and ownership responsibilities within the company.

About the Office Manager Position

Our office managers have typically remained with Firefly for 10 years or longer. We value loyalty, consistency, and long-term relationships, and our team members have appreciated the stable employment and supportive work environment we provide.

We value flexibility, creativity, and thoughtful problem-solving. We genuinely appreciate the ideas and insights our office managers bring to the business, especially in helping us communicate effectively with our customers and sales representatives. The role involves organization, communication, and helping prioritize important information and tasks.

While there are occasional busy periods and deadlines, Firefly is not a high-pressure or high-stress office environment. We strive to maintain a friendly, respectful, and comfortable workplace culture.

About Our History

Firefly was founded in the 1990s by Edward Rudnicki. After graduating from art school, his travels brought him to Guatemala, where he was inspired by the natural beauty surrounding Lake Atitlán and by the artistry and craftsmanship of the indigenous people in the region.

After living in Santiago Atitlán for five years and developing a jewelry workshop in partnership with the Chavajay family, Ed began working extensively with department stores and larger corporate accounts in the late 1990s. Over time, Firefly shifted its focus toward working with independent jewelry representatives and small businesses across the country, creating a more stable and sustainable business model that continues to support steady employment for our artisans.

Today, we are excited to begin developing a direct retail and online presence as the next stage of Firefly’s growth.

About Our Office

Since 2000, Firefly has operated out of a spacious loft in West Oakland filled with natural light and plants. Our office is located near Prescott Market, with nearby coffee shops and food trucks within walking distance.

We maintain a friendly and comfortable office culture with a casual dress code and an outdoor garden space available for lunch breaks.

About Firefly’s Current Expansion

In addition to selling our jewelry wholesale through sales representatives, Firefly is currently developing a retail website that will allow customers to purchase directly from us online. Expanding our internet presence is part of our ongoing goal of maintaining long-term stability for both the business and our artisan workshop.
